{"id":725,"date":"2013-02-19T20:09:56","date_gmt":"2013-02-19T20:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.success-academy.org\/home\/?p=725"},"modified":"2013-02-19T20:09:56","modified_gmt":"2013-02-19T20:09:56","slug":"team-spirit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.success-academy.org\/home\/team-spirit\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Spirit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIndividuals don\u2019t win, teams do\u201d <strong>Sam Walton<\/strong> (American businessman, founder Wal-mart stores 1918-1992):<\/p>\n<p>When society started, small groups of hunters worked together to catch the larger wild animals,\u00a0where <strong>performing as a team had enormous rewards.<\/strong>\u00a0Everyone knew the objective &#8211; fulfilling the primary need for food &#8211; and was motivated to\u00a0achieving it.<\/p>\n<p>As society has evolved with greater and greater division of labor, mechanization and\u00a0automation, <strong>the objectives of the individual have also evolved.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Individual objectives often no longer coincide with those of the other members of the group,<\/strong> the\u00a0enterprise in which they work or society in general.<br \/>\nHaving achieved their basic needs for the short term \u2013 food, shelter, clothing, security \u2013 <strong>people\u00a0start to think about power, prestige, appearance.<\/strong><br \/>\nThey then start <strong>pursuing these secondary needs<\/strong> and can start to get into situations where\u00a0<strong>values become distorted.<\/strong> A classic example is buying a house they can\u2019t afford, or exaggerated\u00a0consumerism.<\/p>\n<p>Motivation towards the objectives of the enterprise may become a source of internal conflict for\u00a0those who don\u2019t feel they get adequate recognition, responsibility or rewards.<br \/>\nThey <strong>may reduce their effort to the minimum<\/strong> or even start acting in a way that is detrimental to\u00a0the business.<br \/>\nFor example just doing enough to ensure that customers are satisfied rather than making an\u00a0effort to smile and be helpful so that they exceed the customer\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.success-academy.org\/home\/team-spirit\/teamspirit\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-726\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-726\" alt=\"teamSpirit\" src=\"http:\/\/www.success-academy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/teamSpirit-300x206.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.success-academy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/teamSpirit-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/www.success-academy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/teamSpirit.png 472w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If a company can get the staff to feel a <strong>sense of community<\/strong> by forging a tight bond based on\u00a0values and mission that makes them believe in the future of the company, <strong>huge benefits can be\u00a0gained.<\/strong><br \/>\nGreater commitment from the employees has immediate effects on efficiency \u2013<strong> less\u00a0absenteeism, less waste and lower staff turnover in addition to the customer satisfaction that\u00a0brings in more business.<\/strong><br \/>\nLess immediate, but of enormous potential, is the <strong>creativity<\/strong> that the motivated staff can bring to\u00a0the company.<\/p>\n<p>The development of a company culture where everyone is fully committed <strong>requires a\u00a0management team who also show they are totally committed.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Clear and transparent communication<\/strong> is essential to achieve the company vision and to always\u00a0know where they stand in the path achieving their goals.<br \/>\nMost people want to be part of a winning team and, like in a sports team, the support from their\u00a0raving customers\/fans will <strong>encourage them to keep going the extra mile.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIndividuals don\u2019t win, teams do\u201d Sam Walton (American businessman, founder Wal-mart stores 1918-1992): When society started, small groups of hunters worked together to catch the larger wild animals,\u00a0where performing as a team had enormous rewards.\u00a0Everyone knew the objective &#8211; fulfilling the primary need for food &#8211; and was motivated to\u00a0achieving it.
