Life isn’t perfect all the time.<\/strong> There is so much going on, often all at once, that\u00a0things outside our control happen.<\/p>\n

Often there is no planning, or planning is done poorly.<\/p>\n

\u2018If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.\u2019 Benjamin Franklin<\/strong><\/p>\n

Planning and preparing takes time, and even if well done, Murphy’s Law states “if\u00a0something can go wrong it probably will”.<\/strong>
\nIt is bound to be the thing least expected to fail and hence had little or no\u00a0contingency plan.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately more often than not it is the human factor<\/strong> (people) that cause the\u00a0plan to fail. Someone didn’t respect a deadline, didn’t read the contract or the specs\u00a0fully, forgot to pass on clear information, etc..<\/p>\n

Before confronting these people it is usually pertinent to reflect on the situation and\u00a0consider the circumstances<\/strong> before saying or doing anything.
\nDid they know the deadline and the consequences of missing it?
\nDid they have sufficient time and training to read and understand the contract or\u00a0specs, and if it was so important should someone else have reviewed it as well?
\nHave they enough experience to know what information is important and how to\u00a0pass it on effectively?<\/p>\n

\"2arguing\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It is personal in the sense that either they should have done better,<\/strong> or there is\u00a0something not working from your side.<\/strong> But you should never make it personal to the\u00a0extent that they feel it as a personal attack.
\nFeedback should focus on the poor outcomes or behaviours not on the people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every mistake is a learning opportunity<\/strong> and it is only when that learning does\u00a0not happen that there should<\/strong> be consequences<\/strong> in order to ensure the goals are\u00a0achieved.<\/p>\n

We aren’t perfect and all make mistakes, it is how we resolve them that matters.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
